pat robertson, you need to repent

i saw this early, but didn't post it until i saw it on websites on both sides of the political spectrum. so here it is:

On Monday, Robertson said on the Christian Broadcast Network's "The 700 Club": "We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability."

"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

Chavez has emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of President Bush, accusing the United States of conspiring to topple his government and possibly backing plots to assassinate him. U.S. officials have called the accusations ridiculous.

"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson said. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."

Rangel called Robertson "a man who seems to have quite a bit of influence in that country," adding sarcastically that his words were "very Christian."

what would jesus do...what would jesus do...what would jesus do? there is no doubt in my mind that jesus would never, ever call for the assassination of any person, let alone someone sharing a different political viewpoint. i think i remember a lot about loving enemies, about praying for those who persecute you, to forgive. as a Christian, pat robertson does not speak for me. in fact, he offends me. he shames my faith by making such a declaration on a "Christian" show. pat needs to fall down on his face before G*d and plead for forgiveness and then do the same before chavez. then he can go on tv and ask for the rest of the world to forgive his comment.

I have to agree. I was bugged by it. As you know I lean a bit right. Pat Robertson and others like him continue to reinforce the notion that being conservative means being a blowhard, narrow minded idiot. PAT REPENT!

Romans 15:1 - 3 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak... For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”

Well, it looks like the rest of us will have to do some "bearing," because of Pat's... um... wacky comments. Oh, my. I suppose I've said some stupid things now and again. I'm just glad they're not televised or broadcast beyond a blog. Yes, humility and godly sorrow are in order here. I wonder if it will be forthcoming?

i would have thought that as soon as it hit the mainstream media that robertson would have "apologized". but it's been out there a day, and he hasn't.

oh, i also like that robertson is so mired in 1950's thought that he's worried that it will be a launching ground for communism. at least he's also been clued in and mentioned muslim terrorism as well. communism, are we even worried about that. sure, try it, we don't care. just keep selling us your oil.
