american gangster delivers. it's well written, beautifully shot, and definitely well acted. of course, denzel washington and russel crowe are supurb. but i was really impressed with all of the supporting cast, guys like common, t.i., and the rza. especially rza.
and, it's a very interesting story.
so go see it. it's a must see if you like gangster films. even if you don't, but enjoy good movies, you'll like this one.

oh yeah, i also enjoyed all of the cameos, and thinking, "oh, that's this person," or "check out him."
We caught it on saturday and liked it a lot. Then we saw a history channel piece on Frank Lucas and Nicky something, Cuba's character.
The story on the history channel was really different from the movie. They had interviews with Frank Lucas throughout the whole thing, and one thing that he said was that if he had his life to do over again, he would do it all the same. It was really chilling to hear him laughing about the life he lead.
Also, we decided that the 2-hr movie, with its tiny montages of heroin addicts, would have been a lot more true to life if it had showed 1h50m of junkies and ten minutes of the rise and fall of Frank Lucas. You leave the movie seeing him as a hero with faults instead of a villain who paid off his destitute neighborhood with turkeys on Thanksgiving.
American Gangster reminds me yet again what a versatile actor Russell Crowe is… plus Ridley Scott deftly leads us into loving the bad guy and disliking the good guy only to flip that around by the end of the movie... very clever.
