random thursday morning post

good to see that jill carroll was released from captivity in iraq. now if we can just get the country released...

and, in a study to be released today, turns out alcohol doesn't help your heart. of course, i'm sure this will be followed by another study saying the opposite. you got to love it.

just heard a radio commercial featuring jeremy piven. he was supposed to be a dad driving his kids and they were talking about the air freshener in the car. how do you end up doing that? successful as "that guy" in tons of movie, now has hit it pretty big as a part of the hbo show "entourage", now doing voice work for glade?

i'm about to watch the movie spy game for about the hundredth time. something about this movie keeps bringing me back to it. heather would say that i'm just in love with brad pitt. this is untrue. i do admire his acting credentials, and his ability to end up with some of the hotttest stars world wide, but that's not why i keep watching this movie. i think it may go relate to the assassin/spy conversation held on adam's blog a while back. or, i may just like the movie, think that the catchers mitt that is redford is a good actor, and yes, think brad pitt is good too. although, at one point in this movie, he has some horrendous hair.

looked at some interesting shoes this morning.

justin may really like this one. i did.

Hey, I took a look at the guayabera website and there are some great looking ones. I found a couple of others. I think I'm going to get a few because they seem like they would be perfect for the humid summer plus they look nice enough to wear to work.

Great movie, came across it again last week while I couldn't sleep, made me stay up even later.

I almost ordered the blackspot shoes once. I remember they came out around the ime nike bought up converse. The thing is even if you are altering the swoop on your shoes, you still bought a pair of Nikes. I have a hard time with it, I love my chucks, and my running shoes are from Nike. When I bought them I was specifically looking for shoes that were not from Nike, and I went to a running shoe store. The Nikes were the best shoe, the most comfortable, etc. Damned if they don't make a good shoe. If only they would pay a living wage.

yeah. basically, there are no performance shows that are fair trade. well, the high end new balance may be, but not their lower end shoe. i think they're still made in usa.

i also agree, that the defaced nikes are still purchased nikes. that's why i thought the blackspots offered an alternative, although you could make a statement with the shoes you may already have. i actually used to do that with track gear in college, covering the logos on the sweats, cutting off those on shoes.

had you seen that design book?

There is also this place.

agreed, adam, there are other outlets providing sweat shop free footware. unfortunately, if you want a high performance running/workout shoe, you will pretty much have to buy from the big, bad, sweatshop using companies.

i don't know if it's that these other companies don't have the $ for r&d, or if they just figure that their market doesn't want this type of shoe. or something else. so, if you want a sweatshop free, quality running shoe, i think you're stuck with new balance. but, if they don't fit you well, then you're back to buying from the bigs.
