it seems you're taking on water
i can't wait to read more details about this. really, the sheriff sank their boat? were they racing? were they fishing? did it sink @ the dock? i need to know!
"A Fresno County’s sheriff’s patrol boat sank during a rescue on the Kings River on Sunday after a deflated inner tube was sucked into the boat engine’s intake, the Sheriff's Department reported today.
No one was injured in the incident about 3:30 p.m. just south of the Goodfellow Avenue bridge, south of Sanger.
Deputies were patrolling the river when they approached a woman floating in the river who was being pushed underwater by overhanging branches, the Sheriff’s Department said. One deputy grabbed onto the woman as another deputy tried to move the boat away.
The woman had been floating on an inner tube attached to a deflated inner tube, which got caught in the engine’s intake as the rescue boat pulled alongside her.
When the deputy driving the boat tried to accelerate, it lost power and headed toward the overhanging branches. The other deputy, who was still hanging onto the woman, jumped into the water and got her safely to shore.
The powerless boat drifted into the overhanging branches and was pushed sideways, causing one side to dip into the fast current. The second deputy jumped as the boat started filling up with water and then submerged.
Another sheriff’s boat picked up the second deputy.
Deputies were able to beach the boat with help from Cal Fire. "
