no, you're not.

eating food doesn't make you a foodie.

saying you paint doesn't make you a painter.

putting up videos from other people doesn't make you a blogger.

i could go on with a few more lines, but i don't really want to this to take a (more) negative tone. life is well. i've got time on my hands right now do to a slightly smaller class load and the end of track. so, with time, i realize that i haven't kept up with some things, like painting. it's giving me a kick in the pants to do the stuff i really enjoy, do the things i really want to be about and not just say i'm about.

in other news, i'm still trying to get a.o. fresno off the ground. seriously, i really didn't think it would be so difficult to find 25 people in the fresno area that liked soccer, especially u.s. soccer that would want to get together and watch matches. this is also helping me realize the limitations of my contacts. but i really do believe that this is a cool, grass roots, supporters organization that does care about soccer. if you watch any of the gold cup games, you'll see american outlaws in a section. they'll be the ones passionately cheering, singing, chanting throughout the whole game. i'm already a member, and would love for you to get involved, too.

on a side note, we went to vegas last weekend. it was a ton of fun. the vegas schedule caught up with me last night. i was falling asleep on the couch at like 9:45, and went to bed @ 10:30. wha?

yep.

every so often i miss days (a week) of blogging. i feel bad, i promise i'll be more consistent in my writing...and then it happens a month or so later.

this time, i say whatever. i've been busy lately. i'll have time, and then i'll get you some good quality material. today, i'm just letting you know that i'm thinking about you, loyal readers and people that click onto this blog looking for pulp fiction images.

if it's any consolation, i haven't been reading blogs much lately either.

bad blogger

yeah, i've been quite lax on my blogging lately. and, i know i wrote a piece last week about how i was going to try and get more done...and then didn't. my work schedule changed, coupled with afternoon stuff, and just being busy. and then i've got to mix in my general ability to forsake everything else to watch tv. yep. so, i haven't blogged much. been reading blogs though.

so, here's some stuff going on:
pub quiz is doing well after two weeks. we had 62 the first night, 77 the second. i wandered around during the second one and really tried to talk to each team, see if they're enjoying themselves and whatnot. seems like every is having a very good time. there are pics and a write up over @ our blog. for those that haven't already, you can also become a fan of us on facebook (fresno pub quiz) - we already have 90 people as "friends."

track season is getting into full swing. we've been doing our off season practice for a while, but now we're getting into season. of course, we've managed to have all of 2 practices due to all the rain. we were scheduled to have a throwers pentathalon today, but it was changed to tomorrow due to all the storms. sadly, this means i won't be there because i made plans to be out of town on saturday (since the event was today). later this afternoon i've got to go out to the track to do some work getting the venue ready for tomorrow's event. hopefully it won't rain and jack that plan up, and won't rain tomorrow. my throwers need to get some events under their belts. practice is good, but a meet always brings more energy, nerves and other stuff that they've got to get used to.

speaking of saturday, i'm headed to l.a. for my second usmnt game. this one is just a friendly, but it's against honduras, who also qualified for the world cup. our team won't be at it's best, as many of the bigger names won't be playing, but it will give us some insight of what our subs will look like in south africa, as well as help decide some of the positions still up in the air on the team. for more comprehensive breakdown, i suggest the shin guardian. i'm also excited because this is the first game i'm attending as a member of the american outlaws. and, i'm going with what is somewhat the basis for our potential fresno chapter. adam, carrie and her brother are signed up and official, vince and mike will get on board very soon, and myself. now, there may be more fresno area members out there, and we're in the process of locating them (or getting people joined up). it's fun to be a part of a supporters group, and it will be cool to link up with the l.a. outlaws group, and other outlaws from across the u.s. to pre-game at the off campus pub, march into the match together, and have a blast in the supporters section. hopefully the weather in carson will be nice enough. btw, it'll be my first match at the home depot center, home of the galaxy.

i haven't been to a movie or a local show in quite a while. need to change that soon.

anyway, i may post some cell shots from tomorrow's game, and some other stuff over the week. /end

update on life

hey, i've been a little busy lately so i haven't put anything up on the blog. we had a blast at pub quiz last night w/62 people.

today, i took two naps. one after class, but before lunch, and then a long one after lunch. it seems i haven't slept a lot lately. well, not during normal hours. but i feel well rested now.

tomorrow, i'll try and post something real, and interesting. but for now, just wanted to say hi.

updates on soccer issues

let me throw out a few questions to those that are interested in a jaunt down to los angeles to see u.s. vs honduras:

1. if we went to that game, would you also want to go see u.s. vs mexico on feb 24 (if that game happens - it's not confirmed yet, & it's rumored for the rose bowl)?
2. would you risk seeing no game @ all if we didn't go to honduras game in an attempt to go to potential mexico game & it doesn't pan out?

so, answer those in comments.

just so you know, i've been in contact with american outlaws regarding possible other member in the fresno metropolitan area. trying to see if i can at least get an idea of how many there are, if not actual email addresses or something. so, you should sign up and help us get the ball rolling. snazzy t shirt, bandanna, info on upcoming matches, discounts on flights, parties at games, it's the shiznit.

update on me pt. 2

so, i'm actually working my way through papers, but also am fixing a late lunch. i'm making some breakfast sausage that i bought at the store the other day. i didn't read the package too closely, but apparently they have a maple flavoring to them. smells awesome.

update on me

i have a bunch of papers to grade right now. so, of course, i'm surfing the net and stalling. i've had three weeks to get them graded. i have to have them graded and submitted by the end of the day.

pure awesomeness.

blame it on the heat

ugh. blogging has been a little lazy around here lately with a lot of videos. i blame it on the the heat. it makes me damn sleepy when i'm at home, where i do most of my blogging.

but have no fear, i will press on. i'm hoping to post a flyer today or tomorrow. and, friday through sunday i hope to post some thoughts from my road trip to salt lake to see the u.s. men's national team play.

i may also have some other content today and tomorrow. now, i think i may go take a nap. this heat is making me sleepy.

what's going on

yeah, so i haven't blogged much lately. it's because i'm out livin. that's right, l i v i n. you should get out and try it. just kidding. i mean, i've been doing stuff, and hanging out with people (like the andersons), and i just haven't taken time to sit down and write anything.

so, here goes with some stuff.

anybody have any luck voting in the bee's people's choice awards? i haven't. i've tried from two different computers (one @ work, one @ home) and haven't been able to get the system to let me past the first page. i answer the questions, then i click on next and nothing.

(UPDATE: it let me go to page two. you should go over and vote @ http://www.fresnobee.com/peopleschoice/)

had a good time @ the swede fest. thanks again to all the directors, and thanks to brodiemash for putting that on. tvlgfhf has one in the planning stage so we'll be in the next festival.

speaking of tvlgfhf, we'll be posting a new episode tomorrow, so download it from the site or hit up itunes and subscribe.

had a good time @ the benefit for cafe corazon, the little bit i was there for. the old gut was a little off, and i wanted to rest a bit. since i missed rademacher, i think i've got to definitely check out this show on wednesday night:

i know, it would be a non-traditional night for the dice riff raff, but hey, some of you still haven't seen the greatness of rademacher.

finally, today i got a hair cut.

here's me before:

side view

and hair...i mean here...i am post clip. rocking it short again.

for those of you who haven't seen me around lately, yes, i'm currently rocking a beard. a novembeard to be precise. it seems that it's beard appreciation month so i thought i'd grow one. it was annoying for a bit, but it's grown on me. yeah, i said that, too. i'm 95% sure i'm cutting it off on dec. 1 or thereabouts.

blog advisory

warning, blogging could be a little slow this week. i'm adjusting to going back to work (2 morning classes, track in the afternoon). throw in a little lack of sleep, and the brain is a bit of mush.

of course, this probably means i'll post 4 more times over the next three hours.

new iphone software & macworld news

so, macworld started today, and steve jobs announced a super thin new powerbook. looks pretty.

also, they announced a new iphone software update. this excites me because: now i can send a text to multiple people. i used to always do this with my old phone, and was frustrated that i had to type out the same message over and over and over as i sent it out to our crew. now, one time.

not much else though

half way through my morning work week. it's the first week of session, and that's always a little hectic as things get set up and running.

this weekend, i have my first weekend class for the university. it's not too bad, because i co-teach it and we divide up the work. the sucky thing is that it goes until 10 on friday night. and then starts saturday morning @ 8. but, at least it's done by 3:30 on saturday.

dang, i want a nap right now. but, don't have the time. maybe later.

what's happening

tonight is the last night of teaching in my 6 wk evening course for the university. it's gone pretty well. so, now i've got 4 upcoming weekend course between now & july for them.

but, next week i'll start teaching 2 courses in the mornings for the jc during the next 5 weeks.

and we've still got track season going on. wtf = women's track and field, not whatever jay thought it meant.

and my bike is over 1100 miles now.

art update

thought i'd post some photos of works in progress, as well as note that there are four new posts on my art blog (link here and to the right). they are photos of some of the pieces that are currently in my rogue show, that weren't already on my site.

and now to the in-progress stuff:

tentatively called petrified waves

untitled

these three are a triptych, with an updated flair to them

this will be the 3rd in my tower series (and it's upside down)

updatey do

today, i accepted another position @ the university where i'm working. it's another part time deal. one night a week, for a few hours. the pay is pretty good for what i've got to do (very little). but, it's quite a commitment: 15 months. and, since it's one night a week, that means that i won't be able to take any night classes @ the j.c. i've been working at. so, hopefully i'll be able to get morning and daytime classes there while building up my resume & experience.

and, i'm working my way further into the system where i'd like to work.

welcome back

tom & sam widlund have moved back into my links section. you'll find their blogs under wid (tom) and lund (sam).

what's up with me

a little update on what's keeping me busy

currently, i am:
-working on 3 paintings. it looks like my next show will be january. group show. hopefully by that show, i will have 6 new pieces.
-i am waiting on word on whether or not i will be an artist in the rogue festival. they should have let me know by now, but i hear that they're behind schedule on stuff.
-finishing up my current teaching assignment. term ends next wednesday.
-working on my application for a full time faculty position (where i want to be).

i am getting ready to:
-teach english. not sure how, but i'm qualified (various class credits). i will be teaching english in the next five week term. starts monday after thanksgiving. sadly, this screws my new year plans for seattle. it looks like we have a break around the Xmas holiday, but start back jan 1. wha?
- watch michigan vs ohio state on saturday. hey, 1 vs 2. huge game. may disappoint. i always like watching a key matchup in season.

what's in the distance:
-ps3. yeah, it comes out this week. but, i'm not one for standing in line overnight. if they happen to still have them in stock on saturday, i might get one. if not, i can wait. i've waited this long.
-motorcycle training course - at some point i'm taking this weekend course. then i'll have my motorcycle license. that, plus more $ making = motorcycle. then, i get to crash, lose my leg, marry paul mccartney, get divorced, and be set for the rest of life. (i know, i know, that's crass.)

getting it all together

just so you know, this will probably be a slow week of posts. i'm still trying to get my act together on this class i'm teaching. so, at least today, no real updates.

update on me

some of you know that i had an interview yesterday, with the university that i want to teach at. sadly, there were no miraculous offers, i didn't run out of the building triumphantly, nor was i totally defeated. the interview went well enough, and i'm on their list of people to use in the future. unfortunately, i had hoped to get in on something for next semester. it looks like the earliest i could be teaching would be in the fall.

what does that mean for all of you? well, my blogging won't be slowed up by tedious work preperation. hurray! of course, i'll still be looking for other work, dreaming dreams, and painting.
