weekend musings

what a nice weekend. me, i went out of town with almost my entire crew. we booked a cabin up near shaver lake which was spacious, had two great decks and worked out great. really great. we had a fun time each day, and each day brought something different.

having said that, and still being fully satisfied and impressed with my weekend, i know i missed out on a lot of cool stuff in fresno. i know love the captive got it's shows underway down at frank's place with two good looking events on friday and saturday. i'm excited for the first show that i can attend down there.

i know i also missed the closing party for ashtree studios. ashtree's been a great piece of the fresno visual art (& performing arts, too) scene for years, and it's unfortunate that we're losing a spot. all the best out to aileen & tony in their future endeavors.

so, we returned to fresno and guess what, it's hella hot. and you know that. and i know that. whatever, that's not news. what is news, entourage is back. heather's not a fan, but i've enjoyed the show. we'll see if this new season is better than the last, which was pretty mediocre in my opinion.

the week ahead:
-work. yep, gotta go back tomorrow. but, i'm subbing some time this week which means extra cash, which is always a plus.
-pub quiz on wednesday - this is still a very good time each week. i love running the quiz, and like the 95% of the people are having fun, too.
- post art hop show on thursday - rademacher, of course will rock the house, but i'm excited to also see ibid again. i've loved his hip hop stylings for a while now, but haven't seen him rock the mic in a while. so this will be cool. bad andy is also playing, and we'll see what that's about.



-brock lesner vs shane carwin on saturday night. this fight has a lot of buzz. lesner has plowed through the ufc heavyweight division to the title, and carwin has pretty much done the same to the a title shot. i haven't looked at the undercard, but i'm sure it'll be a good night. and, with fedor getting submitted, his claim of being the best heavyweight seems foolhardy at best, and this match could show us who the true best heavyweight in the world is.

random tuesday musings

so, i meant to write this post this morning, but didn't. oh well. here's a bunch of random stuff floating around my mind today:

it was freaking cold today. i need to put the windshield on my bike. however, i'll probably just sit around and not do it.

going to fresno mag's best of fresno event tonight. i've already chuckled at the list (available at the beehive) but figure it'll be interesting. and, free samples and junk sounds cool. plus, it's giving us some potential podcast material.

i've shaped the novembeard a little. nothing radical, just took a little out of the sides. looks a little more maintained and groomed.

i wonder if the new cantina tacos from taco bell are any good. btw, it took me twenty minutes to figure out they were called cantina tacos. i took a nap and my head is in a bit of a fog.

speaking of that nap, i fell asleep during a soccer podcast, when it ended i put on a fantasy football one. after i woke up i had to replay the football one. may replay the soccer one later. i love me some podcasts.

i heard a rumor about the united states men's national team may play mexico in a friendly at the l.a. coliseum. if this happens, i will go. and, i know at least 3 other guys that would go in a heartbeat. man, i hope this happens.

tv in my head?

i admit, sometimes i wonder if i'm going nuts. i'll be in parts of my house, which isn't very big, and think i hear a radio or tv on. there isn't. but it's like i can faintly hear one, but can't locate it. and i'm 99% sure it's not some neighboring tv.

maybe my fillings have decided to start picking up radio frequency.

or i'm nuts.

random tuesday night post

so, a few thoughts as i end my tuesday:
-watched a discovery show about wild boars. i'm not a hunter, but i do have an inclination to go boar hunting. not sure why.

-the english have this term pants, which basically means something sucks or is crap. like, manchester united was pants in that last
match (which they were). i love the phrase and will be working it into my terms, like I did local.

random musings

so, i was just going through life today and was thinking about tons of random stuff and thought i'd post a little here.

-man, i really dislike red light runners. i don't know if fresno has more than other places, or maybe the major intersections i go through get more, but damn! stop running the red light, especially you left turners. at one intersection 3 cars in one lane turned after my light turned green. that means yours has been red for at least a second.

-i saw a license plate that read i love my camry. how much do you have to really like a car to get your vanity plate about it. and a camry?

-i was subbing a class today and showed the movie 'freedom writers.' pretty good movie, well made. hillary swank has horse teeth. here's my deal about the movie: i know it's based on a true story, just like dangerous minds was (this isn't the problem). i find it problematic when the stories routinely done by hollywood are the old "whitey comes to the projects and saves the inner city kids." it's overplayed, and it maintains the idea that minorities can't do it on their own. but, that doesn't mean we can't tell the stories like freedom writers. i just worry that we only tell those stories.

so, as i sat listening to blu & exile, i pondered many random things.

is karl rove a slug that eats worms? they just found these extremely rare slugs in england that are carnivorous, eating earth worms. such type of slugs are a little more common in turkey & georgia. perhaps one somehow found its way over here and now is claiming executive privelege, even though he was never the president. and, nevermind that nixon was subpoenaed and testified. mr. rove claims he has a get out of jail free card from the justice department. look, i'm no constitutional expert, far from it, but it seems like if your supoenaed you've got to at least show up and claim the 5th. but i guess when you're a rare slug you've got to protect yourself. you may be one of the last of your species.

i've worried here before that the u.s. may be on a path to war with iran, even before our lame duck dictator flees office. it looks like the rails might be getting greased as iran tests missles and our ally, israel rattles it's sabres right back.

what happened over at the fresnan to make him pull down the dope i submitted? beats me.

i'm trying to figure out if i can head to pa. the first weekend of august. it's sooooo soon, but i think i'll make it. sadly, i forgot to bring my american airlines card w/me today because i was going to call them and see if i can break off some of my miles on that flight. it'll have to wait until tomorrow i guess.

last night i overheard three ladies talking about doing "private shows" and other work related drama. adam previously heard them talking knowingly about the nasdaq. them some diversified dancers. people can still surprise me.

the other day i saw this cheesy 80's action flick called remo williams: the adventure begins. i think it was supposed to spark a sort of american james bond type series, but it sucked and didn't spawn jack crap. however, at the end (i on ly watched like the last 25 minutes of the movie) remo dodges bullets using his martial art skills from korea. it was totally the precursor to any bullet dodging neo did in the matrix. i'm not bs'ing, it's several of the same moves, sans special effects and carried out a little bit slower.

finally, my newsman chum is getting the station's luxury box @ the chuck' for a grizz game. he gets 18 total tix, i'm not sure how much input i get on those, but keep an ear open on the when.

oh wait, one more thing. look for the possible recording of another episode of tvlgfhf this weekend, maybe even tomorrie if it ain't too hot for us to live.

4 random things seen driving

over the last few days, i've seen a few odd or slightly noteworthy things:

-on tuesday, i saw a car with 4, yes 4, josh groban bumper stickers. you must really heart him.

-on wednesday, i was driving and there was a truck slightly behind, and in the lane to the left of me. some edged out a little to make a u-turn and this truck got all over his horn. because, you know it was slightly dangerous. the truck then proceeded to run a red light. and by run, i mean that this light was red for a good three seconds before he even entered the intersection.

-today, i saw a girl by city college (i'm presuming she was a student) with a walkman. a freakin tape playing walkman!

-just after seeing the girl with a walkman, i saw one of the worst cars ever, and the owner was trying to sell it. it was one of these:



the price, $8000. that's right, 8 grand for one of the biggest flops. to me, that means the owners still owes about 8k, and is trying to get out. thanks, but no thanks.
