mls championship game

take heart, dana. i know they're not the san jose squad you used to love, but sort of are. houston has repeated as champions of major league soccer. and, for the second year in a row, they've beaten new england.

it was a game of halves. new england controlled the first, and went up 1-0 on sweet header by taylor twellman. the revolution had a ton of chances and i knew that if they kept at it they would score. and they did.

but, there are two halves in every game. and the second belonged to houston. the dynamo completely reversed things and controlled the pace and all the shots in the second. houston equalized on a low, driving shot. then dewayne derosario had his own sweet header to put them ahead in the 74th minute.

down 2-1, new england threw everyone forward for the last fifteen minutes in an attempt to equalize. one of the defenders had a point blank, diving header that should have gone in, but somehow pat onstad had a kick save reaction.

so, congrats to houston. back to back champions. and, you kept the new england area from winning every professional championship this year.

superliga final

tonight @ 8 pm. i'll be watching the galaxy taking on pachuca. and hoping that my mls side has it's head straight. if we're not going to make the mls playoffs, which it pathetically looks like, at least we could win this tournament.

beckham goal!

well, beckham has scored his first goal here. bent a nasty ball into the side net. over the wall, got the keeper moving that way and is whipped back to the side the keeper had been.

expect to see a clip of that goal here asap.

here it is

expect to see more of that from beckham.

btw, in the start of the second half a beckham had a nice ball that sprung landon, and he buried it.

footy news

celtic sucks.

okay, i admit, it was an preseason friendly/warm up type match, and it was against the stars of the league. but still, 2-0 on some really nice goals. and, it's not like all star teams have the benefit of practicing together, knowing where people will and should be. and, it's nice to see that this is the second year in a row where the mls all stars have beaten a top notch squad. last year's victim, chelski, will be playing the galaxy on saturday. maybe you've heard, this beckham fellow is supposed to play.

oh, and dana, the earthquakes are coming back.

more footy news

edgar "the pitbull" davids, dutch international, may be headed to the usa asap. lloks like he may be headed to dallas.

i remember not too long ago people talking about the possiblity of luring ronaldo to mls. it didn't seem very likely, and it was before the new structure that allows for 2 major signings per team. but, now, maybe. the linked article throws out some big names that could possibly end up in the mls. we'll have to wait and see.
