fay wrays cd release show

let me ask you a few questions:
1. do you like music? yes, move on to question 2. no, do i know you?

2. will you be in fresno saturday night?

yes, move on to the flyer. no, i'm sorry.

seriously, this is going to be a very good show. the fay wrays always put their best foot forward on stage, and i'm sure this week won't be any different as they drop their new album. along with fay wrays will be fresno darlings and sxsw tested fierce creatures, one of my new local favs achievement house, the sunburns (who rock), grand canopy, and tokyo death march. i don't know much about the last two, but i'm sure their worth it. hell, 2 of the 3 first bands i mentioned are worth the $10 bucks to get in.

i recommend you head down to fulton 55, enjoy your saturday night.

fresno fair local performer contest

i know some local acts *cough rademacher cough* *cough fay wrays cough* that should get in this thing. because not only could they win, but they would rock the fair.

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA…May 26, 2010… The Big Fresno Fair is pleased to announce that it is holding its first-ever Local Performer Contest starting on June 1st. A total of six local performers will be selected to be part of the first annual local musical showcase at the 2010 Big Fresno Fair on Thursday, October 14th from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. on the Pavilion Stage.

Interested local performers are encouraged to submit their music videos online at www.FresnoFair.com . Once approved, videos will then be posted on the Fair's website, with links posted from Facebook and Twitter, where the public can comment on who they would like to see as part of the musical showcase at the 2010 Big Fresno Fair. Submissions will be accepted starting June 1st until July 31st. All music videos must be family-friendly, as The Big Fresno Fair is a family-friendly environment.

Based upon the most positive public comments on each of the videos posted, as well as input from the local performer contest sub-committee, 20 local musical performers will be selected to advance to the voting portion of the competition. Then Big Fair Fan Club members will be able to vote online for the six bands they want to see at the Fair as part of this local musical showcase. If you are not a Big Fair Fan Club member you can sign up at www.FresnoFair.com . Voting will start on August 4th and last until August 31st. The final six musical performers selected to perform at the 2010 Big Fresno Fair's Local Performer Showcase will be announced mid-September.

"We are a community Fair and as such we are a reflection of those in our community. This is why we wanted to provide a platform to showcase all the local musical talent we have here in Fresno County," said John C. Alkire, CEO of The Big Fresno Fair. "The local performer contest provides a way for us to do this and create something fun and new for the community to get behind. The entire process from viewing the videos online, to voting for your top six and then coming out to see them at the Fair will be something fun and unique to be a part of. We hope to see this competition and musical showcase grow each year, sharing with a new audience the numerous local talented musical performers."

If you would like more information or would like to help spread the word about the contest and showcase, visit www.FresnoFair.com/localperformercontest to download a PDF of the promotional flyer.

i loved fay wrays last night. the played stuff from the new album, some newer songs and more. wheels of fortune were enjoyable, but i keep talking to people that don't enjoy them so much. i can't figure out why.

rademacher & the fay wrays at zapps park

tonight I had my first chance to see the new rademacher line up, or the rademacher b team as malcolm called. first thought, they're not quite polished yet. some little guitar flubs, some slight timing issues. second thought, for as little as this new line up has been together they are really good. the rademacher sound is still there and kicking. in fact, it may be a little more notched up. it's different, but very good. third thought, malcolm is a very good musician. i already thought this, but i'm impressed toale the switch to bass. it's tough to play bass lines and provide main vocals and he does it well. i'm excited to see these guys build on this.

what can be said about the fay wrays? they are everything they advertise themselves as: loud, hard and fast. and great at it. i love the mix of loud guitar that resonates under the vocals. and, eli tears it up on the drums, filling every gap just as it should be. there is no way to go to a fay wrays show without feeling the intensity of the music and leave without your ears ringing. they're not just thrash loud either. it's melodic heavy body blows.

as for zapps park, it's decent. the music gets a little mushy in such a small space, especially louder bands. it's still decent, but it's not the premier fresno music venue but alright to see a show at.

update: here are some photos of eli i took. he came from a wedding, and played both sets in a dress shirt, slacks & a tie. nice.

rademacher changes drummers

yep, the ever evolving line up of fresno greats rademacher continues to...well...evolve. i spoke to former drummer eli reyes on saturday night. he told me that he was no longer in the band, but that he felt it was a pretty amiable split that had been coming for sometime. he's been devoting a lot of time to the fay wrays, and figured that he might leave the band after the next round of tours. he's also working with time commitments from family, job, and recording an album for the fay wrays.

rademacher now consists of
malcom sosa - vocals & guitar
greer mcgettrick - bass & vocals & piano dealy
eden davis - drums

here's what malcom said on the situation
"we haven't changed drummers yet. Eli will be playing 3 more dates with us in SF and Merced and Fresno, but for our upcoming tour with airborne toxic event, we'll be taking along our friend Eden Davis.

She has a different style than Eli."

on our recent podcast, greer told me that the remaining few fresno shows will sort of be farewell to eli shows, so it can really be a good transition and not just "you're fired," type situation.

some more rademacher news, taken from a myspace bulletin:
We're really excited to be touring with two of our favorite LA bands in the coming weeks. The Airborne Toxic Event and the Henry Clay People. We also have a handful of dates on our own.

Dates below. Make it out if you can!!! Some of these things already sold out, so get your tix in advance while you can.

rademacher reminder

okay, i admit i'm a little nervous to see the show tonight. rademacher has a temporary bassist because greer's been kindly filling in for another band on tour. will it be as good as ever?

regarding their current line up, i heard two things last night:
1. that's a whole lot of ugly on stage
2. mike and brad are sexy

now, i didn't say either, and frankly it doesn't matter to me. i'm going for the music. and i want to hear eli play twice (fay wrays + rademacher). and, i missed the boxing lesson on their last time through, so it'll be good to catch them this time.

rademacher your thursday

so, today i'm making up for lost blogging time with multiple posts.

this thursday, local fav of mine rademacher is playing @ tokyo garden (surprise surprise).

they'll be playing with the boxing lesson (austin, tx)- super freekin cool spacey rock music
primer skyline - experimental folk (their description)
and fay wrays, super cool loud fresno rock

i imagine the view looks good from here, fresno will be there.
