link dump

been a while since i've done a good ol' link dump, so here we go:

apparently, kids these days aren't downloading music. instead, they're buying vinyl. except, saying that vinyl sales are up doesn't really mean that people aren't downloading.

teh internets (aka, those series of tubes) is the cause of neglect. or, you're just a bad parent.

we may be nearing war on three fronts. that always goes well, right?

so, some senators had an argument about iraq (shocking, i know). we had a little bit of one in the class i t.a.'d during the dinner break.

the maverick ship seems to be sinking. or, maybe the rats are all jumping off.

in some fresno related news, riverpark hates teenagers. well, at least those ones that do what teenagers do: hang out. and teh kids are organizing.

the wall street journal says new atheism sells well, lacks substance and uses the word tract, all in subheadline. and the sun wants you to know that the pagan's are ticked off. but, hey, the sun also wants you to know that birds singing loudly are a problem.

not sure if this jesus action figure is better than the one i have. i mean, it comes from walmart which is akin to the holy of holies.

not everyone is happy that trump is coming to fresno. now, this guy has some good points, but i think that he goes a little far with his quotes on who benefits from a development in west fresno.

OOTV's comments on those Fresno Famous posts about Riverpark are bugging me.

Some kids are criminals, therefore all kids should be treated as such is basically the logic he's throwing out. Trample the young ones to save the capitalism.

well, i actually don't completely disagree with the shopping center discouraging people that just hang out, create problems, and create a negative environment. but, i also think that a fair amount of shopping also happens by just hanging out.

futhermore, the area that they're monitoring is really based on people hanging out: jamba juice, slices, etc. it's about foot traffic, which doesn't just happen as you're headed to the theater. so, you need to allow a bit of hanging out by kids if they're going to buy stuff occasionally. like a good art show, more people usually increases the chances of a sale.

but, then the guy throws out the gang thing. yes, fresno has a gang problem. and, some of the gangsters hang out a riverpark. but i doubt that this is the reasoning. they (riverpark) don't want to be a dumping ground, a babysitter. they don't want teenagers scaring off people that could buy something. because, frankly, a large part of their demographic is afraid of everything (teens, gangs, young adults, a car smaller than a tank).

Oh, I totally agree on that point. It's not about the kids at all. It's about catering to a different group of people entirely. But in reality, Riverpark, or Fashion Fair, or Manchester (what there is left), and Fulton are the places to go when you have a license but aren't old enough to do much else but buy a pair of sunglasses or some food. A place like Tower isn't as inviting, especially in the evening since it's all food and drinking establishments.

They created Riverpark as an all ages center and guess what, they got all ages. Now they want to restrict that and I hope they abandon that.
