back in the valley, jailbreak at fulton 55

some musical happenings this weekend.

friday night, our friend malcolm sosa will be playing a solo set over @ studio itz from 8-10 pm. it's a free show, and he'll be joined by two acts from l.a. (i don't know the acts, but malcolm called them "two great acts.")

UPDATE: i've heard through facebook that one of the other bands is manhattan murder mystery.

saturday night, there's a cool show down @ fulton 55.



a little bit of rockabilly, a little bit of old school country, and a bit of our friend vince corsaro on drums. sounds great.

radamacher baby hawk

i've haven't been a proper rademacher fan boy of late. i've missed a show or two, and while i've chatted w/malcolm on facebook and eli in person, i haven't blogged much of what i've heard.

but the band has been busy. they've been honing their sound, recording mini albums, and are beginning to hit the road in support of their first Baby Hawk albums. sadly, they aren't playing fresno any time soon. here's where they will be:

fay wrays cd release show

let me ask you a few questions:
1. do you like music? yes, move on to question 2. no, do i know you?

2. will you be in fresno saturday night?

seriously, this is going to be a very good show. the fay wrays always put their best foot forward on stage, and i'm sure this week won't be any different as they drop their new album. along with fay wrays will be fresno darlings and sxsw tested fierce creatures, one of my new local favs achievement house, the sunburns (who rock), grand canopy, and tokyo death march. i don't know much about the last two, but i'm sure their worth it. hell, 2 of the 3 first bands i mentioned are worth the $10 bucks to get in.

i recommend you head down to fulton 55, enjoy your saturday night.

fresno musical renaissance

it may not be totally true, but it feels like fresno is exploding with music. i've said it before, there are a lot of great fresno bands, and more keep coming up. and now, we've got a good local show "facilitator" in love the captive. sure, there have been and are other local promoters, but these guys are bringing in touring bands and matching them with local talent. (you can hear johnny q from love the captive on our most recent podcast.)

add to those two factors new venues - frank's place & the captive. the star palace & warnor's were already around, but they're seeing new life, but frank's place sounds like it's going to be a jewel of a venue. we'll see, and soon. i know i'm planning on being there on july 10 to see admiral radley with rademacher and el olio wolof.

it's looking good fresno. and it seems like it's going to get better.

the fay wrays @ starline

they're playing tonight as a part of the regular show that aesop fables puts on over there. should be nice. fun. loud.

end of the year list

it's the end of another year, and everyone is making lists. their best of this, best of that, worst of this, mediocre that. you know what, i'm...not going to. i was plotting out a post about the best fresno bands i've seen this year. top 7 or something like that. but you know what, i'm not.

want to know why?

because everyone and their mom on teh internets is doing it. and, you probably don't care that i enjoyed rademacher, the sleepover disaster, the fay wrays, it's an icicle, circles and circles. you don't really want to know that i enjoy seeing blake jones and the trike shop, even though they may not technically be a fresno band. you don't care that i enjoyed patrick contreras @ the undercurrent benefit show.

so, i'm not making a list. just maybe a blobby paragraph.
