12 angry men and the fuego

this should be a pretty fun weekend. tonight, heather and i are going to take in 12 angry men. wow, that sounds terrible. i mean, we're going to see the play 12 angry men over at second space theater

i loved this movie and am excited to see how it is adapted as a live show. and, $16 isn't that bad of a ticket price. i think we'll probably go out to dinner before and make quite a night of it.

on saturday morning, i get to head up to turlock for a track meet. this could be interesting because they have a brand spanking new track facility. the bad thing is that i have to leave at 6:30 in the morning. ugh.

saturday evening i get to check out the fresno fuego vs the san jose earthquakes. i'm sure both teams will look a little sloppy, as they're both in their pre-season. hopefully it won't rain too hard on us.

and let me give a special thanks to fresno famous. i won the tickets for the fuego game on their website. it seems that no one enters their contests because i have quite knack for winning tickets off them.

fresno grizzlies game 4/16

last night i went to the grizzlies game thanks to free tickets from fresno famous. thanks fresno famous. it was my second game of the new season, and sadly it was the second time i saw the grizzlies lose.

the night started with a quest for food. this time i tried the bbq nachos from the meat market bbq stand, located sort of behind first base on the concourse. they were pretty nice. the shredded pork was sweet and it contrasted very well with the nacho sauce and the spice of the salsa. the order is a generous portion, and i was satisfied with my dinner.

it was the first thirsty thursday of the year, so that meant cheap tecate. this cost me $2.

we had a nice view of the field.

this guy was wearing a big, stupid, foam cowboy hat that screamed "i need attention." so, here you go buddy, attention on the fresno blogosphere.

later in the night, the moths came out. big ones.

finally, there was one or two ladies in the first level that were blowing bubbles. it was pretty cool and amazing how many bubbles there were, and how they filled up the night sky.

thanks again to fresno famous for the tickets.

take me out to the blogpark

today was the closest thing for me, a blogger, to getting paid. well, sure, some bloggers get paid, just not me (anyone want to scratch a check?). you see, today i was treated to a grizzlies game. and this wasn't just any old ticket, we're talking luxury box. post enough junk on a website, and maybe they'll invite you to a game, too.

ticket

at the game i was joined by other famous users, but i didn't meet them all. i've met wiffle before, and it was cool to chat, and even get interviewed by him for dorktown & flowing with famous. and i think a hint of greatness might have rubbed off on me because i got to sit next to famous whitewater. sadly, we heard an announcement about fresno famous users being there and to check out the website, but we didn't get on camera.

pregame

parker's birthday

and the game was even pretty good, too. there were a few dingers hit, including two by scott mclain. fresno's pitching was good, and i think that the starting pitcher nick periera had 11 strikeouts. and, the closer had snazzy shoes (not pictured). finally, i was surprised to see major leaguer omar vizquel playing for the grizzlies. this is the first work he's done all year as he recovers from knee surgery. he looked pretty good in the infield, but his bat needs to come a little more alive when he heads back up to san francisco.

weather: good
seats: good
price: free is excellent!
company: good

all in all, a nice day at the ballpark. if you haven't been out to the chuck yet, get there. and, apparently they've got good garlic fries

Friday night plan

so, i clipped this from fresno famous, because i want to share with you. i'm going to the 8pm show.

Fresno Filmworks presents: The Valet

French master of comedy delivers another whimsical gem

Frenchman Francis Veber has been writing, producing, and directing comedies since the late 1960s. Among his best-known projects, Veber wrote the screenplay for The Birdcage (1996) and wrote and directed The Dinner Game (1998). In August, Filmworks will present Veber's latest film, The Valet, co-sponsored by screening sponsor L'Alliance Française de Fresno. Here's an excerpt from a review by Los Angeles Times critic Ken Turan:

Making people laugh is the specialty of the house where French writer and director Francis Veber is concerned—and he is awfully good at it. A master of cinematic farce, Veber's latest venture, The Valet, makes the creation of deliciously funny comedy look a lot easier than it has any right to.

The Valet marks the inevitable return of one of Veber's most popular characters, the earnest and somewhat clueless François Pignon, a personage so durable that four different actors have played him over the years.

Soulless billionaire Pierre Lavasseur--played by the versatile Daniel Auteuil, who portrayed François in Veber's 2001 film, The Closet--has romantic problems. Because his icy wife, Christine, played by Kristin Scott Thomas, is a major stockholder in his company, Pierre lives in fear that she will discover his secret relationship with the leonine Elena (Alice Taglioni), who happens to be the highest-paid supermodel in the world.

As always happens in a Veber film, Pierre's worst nightmare comes to pass. A paparazzo grabs a shot of the mogul and his mistress together. When confronted by his wife, Pierre tries a desperate ploy. Elena is not with him, he tells a dubious Christine. She is with a nerdy-looking guy who, in reality, was simply walking by and is captured in the picture completely by accident. The nerdy guy is François Pignon.

Because he is a billionaire, after all, Pierre has the financial and psychological means to persuade both Elena and François to pretend, against all reason, to be a romantic couple. The bulk of the film shows how this ruse is played out and the effects on the flabbergasted people who know parts of the parties involved.

The Valet
Friday, August 10, at the Tower Theatre
5 and 8 p.m.
Rated PG-13, 85 minutes
$10 general, $8 seniors and students
