birthday month

getting older is what it is.  in fact, i really don't mind getting older, and don't get weirded out by numbers.  this thursday, i'll be turning 36 (oops, typed 37 first).  i'm going to use this day as a starting point for a couple of things.

the first thing i decided was to try being a vegetarian for a month.  i watched a few short videos recently about the meat industry, and it did bug me a little. one of them challenged people to try to be vegan for a month. i'm not going that far, but i did think that i could try to be a vegetarian.  for me, this is about discipline.  can i eat a little healthier, and a little less conveniently?  honestly, a large portion of my diet now is because i'll have limited time at meals, especially lunch. so, i'll eat a hot dog or two, or grab some fast food.  not so good for me. hey, i'm getting older, and the lbs don't just fall off any more.  now, i'm not totally becoming a vegetarian, as i'll actually be more of a ovo-lacto vegetarian, which means i'll be eating eggs & dairy. frankly, there's no way i'm giving up cheese, and i've yet to enjoy any of the faux cheeses i've tried.

the next thing i want to commit to is painting more.  man, i used to paint most days, and my art was coming along nicely. for whatever reason, i stopped, and really haven't painted much in over a year. i need to force myself to work on paintings every day. i won't say i'm committing to every day, but i do want to at least work on something four out of seven days in each week.

i think these are two pretty good challenges. hopefully, by december 4th i'll have stuck with them, and will be able to reflect back on the experience. i'm also going to try to blog frequently about the experience over the next month.

today is my lovely wife heather's birthday. so, i thought i'd put up some videos of cats, because she loves cats slightly less than she loves me. i think.

so, yesterday i turned 34. i wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who wished me well, or came over for cake, or bought me a drink, or gave me a present. i appreciate them all. and, if you see me around any time soon and still want to buy me a drink or say happy birthday, i'll take it.

it's funny, some people really stress out about birthdays, lie about their age, and generally have a problem with getting older. not so much me. birthdays are nice, but really, i don't make a big deal about them. i mean, i've had parties before, and some of them were a blast, but generally, i like hanging out with people and so any chance to hangout is welcomed.

nothing is new in life at 34, at least not for me. l i v i n.

heather's birthday is on monday. we'll be going out to dinner, and if you'd like to come along, too, give me a holler.

as of last check, heather wanted to go to indian food. we'll see if it ends up that way.

(and yes, i know that the ncaa basketball finals is monday night. sports will take a back seat to heather. for me, at least.)

birthday post 2

so, lunch was good. as we ate, we talked about how the neighborhood where the popeye's is located has changed. in fact, we're pretty sure that there are only 3 things in the 4 corners at the intersection that are the same: the popeye's, a carl's jr, and the wolverine boot store. everything else has changed as the neighborhood has changed through the years. heather grew up not too far, so she had a much better idea about what stores were where.

after lunch, we ran some errands. one of the things i got for my birthday was the last issue of mario kart for the game cube. now, i don't have a game cube, but the wii is, in fact, backwards compatable. i used to love playing mario kart over @ brian's place. it's such a simple race game, but it can produce really competitive matches. i was excited to get home and pop it in the wii. when i did, i discovered a small problem. the wii plays the game. the wii remotes, on the other hand, do not work with the game. so, i need to figure out exactly which remote i need to use. is it a specific wii remote for gamecube games, or can i just get some gamecube ones? i can't remember what the connectors for game cube looked like.

i'll need to head over to nintendo.com to see if i can locate proper info.

birthday post 1

today's my birthday, and i'm going to try and hit sporadic, short posts during the day.

for lunch, i'm going to popeye's chicken. i love popeyes. the spices, the sides, so good. there's only one location in fresno, and it seems like it's always packed. which is sorta weird for a fast food chicken place.

then we're going to target. you know, busy saturday. got to run some errands

two years ago, and 700 posts ago, i started this blog. i first signed up with blogger because justin, who apparently spends most of his time on blog hiatus, had his blog set up to only accept comments from people with an account. so, i signed up, and started all this. my first post:
