disgusting - now with update!

this really makes me angry. really, really angry. i know this person doesn't speak for all republicans, but this makes me never want to vote for a republican candidate again. ever.

(i saw this first on jay's blog) it really bothers me that there is applause and no one booing or countering it at this speech.

sadly, most of the responses i watched on youtube were of the knee jerk reaction variety. "she said he was a ______, well she's a C yoU Next Tuesday!" I'm looking for a more appropriate response.

here we go

although it's only a, "we don't condone it" from the repubs.

here is john edwards' response, on fox news of all places. (i didn't see it on la times, fresno bee, bbc, drudge report).

and her response to her own bigoted comments, "C'mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean," Coulter told the New York Times. uhhhhhh, really? that's how you want to respond to be homophobic? that's how you want to respond to using derogatory remarks?

UPDATE: slate had an interesting (to me) piece about how basically no one should be surprised, or even really cover it (which is funny because they say that while covering it). some choice quotes to end it, "So, I suppose it's only a matter of time before she calls Barack Obama a Black Panther masquerading as Uncle Tom, describes Hillary Clinton as a dyke Hitler, or reaches for something even more irreverent."

Yeah I can't believe people will "boo" Anna Nicole's mom at her funeral but not this "Lady" (I use this term loosely

this helps me appreciate adam carolla even more for punking her on his radio show a few months back.

Yeah, it shows the inconsistency of the repubs what with the condoning applause after she said it.

But can you really say you were surprised? Ann has called most significant Democrats some variation on gay, including both Clintons, Gore, Kerry. She in fat called Gore a fag last year on tv.

WHat makes me crazy is when they say, "Well, you have Michael Moore and Al Franken, we have Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin." There's no correspondence.

For more on the CPAC conference and Ann, here's a great you tube moment:

about 7 minutes long, but enjoyable.

I agree Steve. Being passionately vocal and smearing someone with slurs is a bit different.

The fact that homosexuality can even be used as an insult is troubling. Very troubling.

i hadn't heard that she repeatedly has used this sort of insult. i knew that she called out 9/11 widows and such, but i was unaware of her constant slurring of democratic candidates in that fashion.

heather first heard this story on adam carolla show (i think she said that to me), and i caught it on jay's blog. but it's still not really hitting the mainstream media (as far as i have seen). i wonder why something such as this would go ignored? and, since this has happened before, why isn't it even bigger a deal?

It's not hitting the front page, but it's hitting the big blogs and I've seen some big paper editorials.

It's not so big in the MSM because the MSM isn't as liberal as everyone claims it to be. =P

I disagree with the idea that no one should be covering this. She called John Edwards a faggot and a whole big group of conservatives clapped. That's newsworthy in my opinion. Like you said, it shows the true values of some of the "Values Voters."

i agree as well adam. while i understand that slate seems to be of the opinion that if you ignore her she will go away, i'm not. i think that when people make public statements that are sexist, racist, classist, and so on, it needs to be pointed out for what it is. i especially think that if you're speaking @ a function, you're representing them and so they need to distance themselves from the remark.

if her defense is, 'i made a funny' then the response needs to be, 'no it wasn't and that sort of joke isn't acceptable for our group.' that is, unless you agree with it.

i saw at least one response out there that was saying people responded negatively at the speech. from the audio i heard on several tapes, it sounds like pretty much cheering and clapping.

in some ways, this reminds me of the rosie situation. everyone who said that she made inappropriate remarks should be speaking up now.
