Yup. That article was fluff. And not very interesting.
If you're going to be shallow, at least be entertaining.

I found it to be intelligent and informative. It's genius. It's like she took several news briefs and compiled them. Kidding.

What? Businesses close and open on a regular basis? No, say it ain't so!

what put me onto the article was a coworker referencing it, but totally reading into it a ton of stuff that pissed me off. so i read the article, and then was like, way to write an article that said about nothing.

although, i could give my impression of why some of these businesses close...

Okay, so I am bummed that Gentiles, and some others left. Lame.

I'm not terribly bummed about Gentiles moving. Their flower shop took up three storefronts. I'm not terribly excited about the HR Block moving into one of them, but wev. The new tattoo place should be cool. I'm curious about that last space.

Oh, and Ed, what was the coworker reading into the article? That Tower is a terrible place and that's why businesses fold?

no, he thought that the article was talking about the type of people down here (not spending money and such). i think he misunderstood the part about skateboarders, and also applied it to the quote from come-on-a-my-house owner about not enough business.

so, they way he was telling me about the article, it seemed like the article was saying these things, or that owners wre saying them. but, the article really didn't say that.

Yeah.

And to an extent, his assumption may be correct. I've never spent a penny at come-on-a-my house. Mostly because everything in the store is ridiculously ugly and kitschy. I see it being very successful at Champlain and Perrin. Businesses like Rousseau and The Landmark are kicking ass and taking names. You just have to offer what the neighborhood wants and obviously, it's not overpriced snobby dinners (Echo) or shiny baubles (Come-On-A-My House).

I'm with Adam.

Come-on-a-blah blah was a lame store.

Hey, is the Planet out of business? Is that what I remember from my last trip there?

edluv said...

yes. the family that owned the planet decided that they were ready to retire, and closed up shop. that was a while ago. then, some car salesman tried to open a restaurant. he redecorated, tried to open a big band music playing high falutin (really, suits required) restaurant. and then, he pissed off the community with some problems @ with the reel pride festival. so, he was shortly out of business. now, there is a mediterranean restaurant that is fabulous. the owners have another restaurant in town that does brazilian food.

I just wish they'd open on Sunday. How many times have I wanted to a Piemontes sandwich on a Sunday afternoon and had to settle for something else? Countless. That's how many.
