some ethics related questions

"the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one"

does this relate though, to the concept of our country? has it? should it? is "the one" akin to the minority viewpoint, and is it not the role of the majority to protect that viewpoint?

Wow. That's a big and vague question. I have just one thing to say in the minute and a half before Becky's ready to go to my parents' place: The majority protecting the viewpoint of the minority is only a requirement if the majority decides that it is the best thing to allow diverse viewpoints.
But we're not talking theory here, are we? If we are talking about the USA, then I think those who came before us have engineered into the system a tolerance of diverse and disagreeing ideas. And that is why the US is a good thing.

I gotta go. If I get a chance, I'll comment more on this later. Good conversation starter.

So, I was the only one to take the bait on this?
